About This Experience

Bruce Belcher & Son is a family-run cruise operator on the Daintree River. You arrive at their property on the Mossman–Daintree Road near Daintree, wander the tropical garden and the small wildlife boutique, and meet your guide before boarding.

The cruise lasts an hour. The guide steers through the mangrove-lined river looking for estuarine crocodiles, snakes, birds and frogs, and talks the whole way about the animals and how the river system works. Recent reviewers mention several crocodiles on most trips, a python on one, and a guide who stops for photos and questions.

There are no transfers and no food or drinks, so bring water and plan the drive: around 1.5 to 2 hours from Cairns, less from Port Douglas. It is on the south side of the river, so you do not need the ferry.

It suits self-drivers adding a river cruise to a day at Mossman Gorge or a run north to Cape Tribulation. The operator is clear that it cannot guarantee sightings, and the boat is not suitable for pregnant travellers, people with back problems or anyone prone to seasickness. Strollers are not allowed.
