Cape Tribulation Rainforest Night Walk

About This Experience

Far North Escapes runs this walk after dark, when the Daintree's night animals come out. You meet at 36 Camelot Close in Cape Tribulation, listen to a short safety briefing, then follow a naturalist guide along a boardwalk with a torch. Recent guests name the Dubuji boardwalk and mention a guide who opens with the area's history and the pressures the rainforest has faced.

What you see depends on the night. Past groups have found glowing fungi, owls, snails, tree frogs, bats, scorpions that glow under the light and, now and then, a tree-kangaroo or a cassowary asleep. The operator does not guarantee any of it, and one reviewer on a dry night saw mainly frogs, insects and spiders while the guide focused on the trees. Guests who walked the same boardwalk by day say it feels completely different at night.

Because the route is a boardwalk, the operator describes the walk as suitable for all ages, fitness levels and mobility. It goes ahead in rain or shine, and ponchos are handed out. Permits are included.

There are no transfers. Cape Tribulation is about 2.5 to 3 hours' drive from Cairns across the Daintree River ferry, so this walk suits people staying overnight at Cape Trib. Heading back to Cairns afterwards would mean a long drive after dark.
