Daintree Discovery Tours keeps this day to a maximum of 10 guests. Your guide collects you from your accommodation in Port Douglas or the surrounding area, and if you are staying in Cairns you can drive up and meet the group at the Wildlife Habitat car park in Port Douglas.

The morning starts at Mossman Gorge with a guided walk of about 500 metres return, mostly on boardwalks, followed by morning tea at the visitor centre: Daintree tea with damper, jam, honey and cream. From there you drive past the cane fields to the Daintree River for an hour-long wildlife cruise, looking for snakes, birds and saltwater crocodiles, then walk a 600-metre boardwalk inside the national park.

Lunch is cooked to order at On The Turps, the open-air restaurant at the Heritage Lodge beside Cooper Creek. Afterwards there is time for a swim in the creek, which the operator describes as free of crocodiles. The afternoon brings an hour around Cape Tribulation Beach, a tropical fruit ice cream stop, the view from Alexandra Lookout and the ferry back across the Daintree River.

It suits travellers who want every headline Daintree stop in one day with a small group, and Cairns visitors happy to drive to Port Douglas to join it. It is not suitable for children under 10. The ice cream and any alcohol at lunch are extra, and one recent guest found the van cramped when full.
